What encouraged you to start this ‘Health Synergy’ project/journey?
Health Synergy (mother-daughter duo) evolved from a mutual passion for health, food and travel.
My mum, Jen, started Health Synergy as a wellness clinic in 2006, after she gained her qualifications in Complementary Medicine.
In 2014, I (Hannah) came on board to create the Health Synergy website and Instagram as an outlet to share recipes and health/nutrition articles, which has now expanded to include travel pieces and product reviews/features.
This is when the Health Synergy journey (as it is today) began and we have since developed a mobile recipe app, published two e-books and collaborated with some of our favourite brands in the health and wellness industry. We are very excited to see what the future holds for Health Synergy!
What are your favourite foods?
Avocado and acai! Can’t go a day without my antioxidant packed acai bowl and avocado on toast.
What are some staple items we’d find in your pantry?
Our pantry is always stocked full of raw nuts as they are such a staple ingredient in our recipes, especially cashews and almonds. I use nuts for making ‘milk’, raw desserts, and as a topping for our smoothie bowls. This is because they are a great source of protein and healthy fats. We also have a pretty decent supply of peanut butter (Pics Peanut Butter to be precise!) … we have a slight obsession.
How do you come up with such delicious, healthy recipes?
The Health Synergy recipe collection on our website started as a database for my mum’s recipes she used to give to her naturopathic clients or just recipes that she had been making my brother and I for years. As our following started to grow, we became more active with creating new recipes, focusing on finding healthy alternatives for traditional recipes containing lots of unhealthy ingredients, as well as recipes that cater to different dietary requirements such as gluten free, dairy free, vegan, etc. Once we decide what we are going to make it is really just a matter of trial and error!
You Travel a lot what are your favourite travel destinations?
That’s tough! I recently went to Tulum in Mexico which I absolutely loved. I wrote a blog post detailing our favourite places to visit, see, and eat there. It was incredible and it had always been my dream to go to Mexico. Some other favourite places of mine are Hawaii, South of France and Greece.
Do you have a daily skincare routine?
I do, I am quite committed to my daily cleanse, tone and moisturise ritual. This is a ritual that I do every night, and sometimes in the morning if I have time. I use a gentle exfoliator once a week and use a face mask once or twice a week. My skin is very sensitive, so am very particular about the products I use. I ensure that they are organic and don’t contain chemicals, which is why I love ONNE’s beauty products so much.
You recently tried our Moisturising Mask. How did you find it?
I absolutely loved it! It was very gentle and left my skin feeling moisturised and soft. I have been using it twice a week for the past month or so, and my skin feels much more hydrated.
Life mantra/s if you have any?
I wouldn’t say I have a life mantra but I do have a few quotes that really inspire me. Some include: “If you can dream it, you can do it”; “life exists outside of your comfort zone”; “in the end, we only regret the chances we didn’t take” and “do something today that will inch you closer to a better tomorrow” … and many more!
