Quick and Easy Ways to Detox

Our bodies are always looking for balance and self-regulation - what medical professionals call homeostasis. We usually don’t have to even think about it - our bodies are always working hard to keep us healthy! But no matter how amazing our bodies are at keeping us well most of the time, we must support this amazing vessel by making wise choices. Doing so used to come easy when our environment was more natural and clean, but that nowadays we need to think about a little more carefully.

It’s important to feed ourselves well in all the essential ways; Eating clean and nutrient-dense foods, drinking plenty of water. Exercising regularly, practising deep breathing, practising gratitude, and choosing great products to put on our skin like the ones made by Onne that help to nourish our skin without adding to the chemical load that the environment throws our way.

Making daily choices for our health is an essential part of keeping ourselves looking and feeling fresh as well as feeling youthful and vibrant.
However, sometimes we need some extra help: we need ways to help our body to detoxify and clear out irritants so that the mirror of our body is just a little brighter and reflective.

We know that we need to help ourselves detoxify, but these practices need to be easy to follow and NOT add more stress to our lives! I have several methods that I follow that work - even though I have a super busy life with young active children, a busy household, and a full workload!

For this reason, I’m a big fan of ADDING IN healthy choices, rather than taking away or restricting foods, lifestyle choices, or habits. I have found that when you bring in a few healthy habits the stuff that isn’t so healthy will naturally fall away because the body is finding support in more profound ways and we don’t need to reach for that quick fix that we might later regret.

There are a few ways that I have discovered that help to clean out the added chemicals, pesticides, and pollutants that are around us, driving our bodies into inflammation, sore muscles and joints, sensitive skin, and even deeper and more chronic problems.

The first thing I do in the morning is to drink a big glass of filtered water with a splash of raw apple cider vinegar. Raw apple cider vinegar is a living food full of probiotics. It helps to balance out the body’s PH levels, lowers blood pressure and cholesterol, fights unhealthy bacteria, and even helps our skin and can reduce or prevent acne. Yes, it does taste like vinegar, but by putting a splash in your water, you will hardly notice that vinegar quality and you will spark your digestion by hydrating first thing in the morning.

Some foods are naturally detoxifying: many health professionals have explored roots such as turmeric and ginger. Turmeric root helps to ease anxiety, stress and even depression, inflammation and helps to regulate our liver and our overall digestion. When I cook, I’ll often season my food with extra turmeric and have many recipes that make use of this gorgeous deep yellow plant. Some of those recipes are so easy to follow and included at the bottom of this article.

As I mentioned, I believe strongly in adding in small habits that don’t put a strain on our already busy lives. We have many more tools than we realize to help our bodies stay balanced, and when we need to reach just past what we know, we can do so by turning toward the wonders of the natural world. Healthy skin starts with a healthy gut- and with a little bit of patience, love, and education, we have the tools to empower ourselves toward radiant health.
